Thoughts on Using Evernote Organization: the organization of my Evernote account is categorized in a few ways. The first level is notebooks; notebooks exist for the methods class, the URI teaching resources, one for coteaching, one for each of my placements, and one for the cumulative unit. Notes were organized by purpose (intended audience, resources, topics to look at, free internet resources!) into the correct notebooks. The tags really helped categorize everything clearly and I’ve currently got around twenty tags I use frequently. No more having 150 bookmarks on Google Chrome!
Content: My content this semester really focuses on genetics due to the nature of the cumulative unit and preparing for teaching these topics starting in January. Other content includes ecology and deep sea biology topics, one for preparing for what my placement is teaching now, one for my own classes. I also clipped readings for EDC 430 so they would be easy to find. I didn't really use it for personal things otherwise, it was mostly academic, and I think I’d continue to use it mostly in that way.
Conclusions: Over the course of the semester I've accumulated around 70 notes that are just from me, with many more from the teaching resources or shared notebooks that I utilized. Resources I enjoyed using were a giant list of free resources for science teachers that are available online or free/inexpensive through other organizations, a word breakdown worksheet for vocabulary that I used extensively for my unit plan (seemed helpful!) and the simplified outline for a lesson plan. I also liked linking all my resources and handouts to the lesson plan because it made everything much easier to find. I’m not currently having any major problems with the program and would just like to reorganize some of my notes and tag more frequently.
